Quality criteria of our essential oils
Our natural essential oils are fully compliant with the criteria of modern aromatherapy. They are obtained by distillation in traditional steam or by simple mechanical expression of zest in the case of citrus.
They are complete: the distillation was carried out from start to finish. They are pure and not corrected, nothing has been added to their biochemical composition. They are organic, whenever the option exists.
The label mentions 3 things :
- the origin of the plant : which part of the plant (flower, root, leaf,…) has been distilled
- the Latin name : identifies the species accurately
- and finally the chemotype (or biochemical characteristic) : wich is the part of the world or from wich biotope the plant comes from.
Why give preference to organic essential oils?
It’s more than retail aromatherapy: you must know that pesticides and herbicides are not eliminated from non-organic plants, but concentrated by distillation, and even more by mechanical extraction procedure! In extreme cases, analysis of non-organic citrus oils show higher rates of insecticide in toxic doses according to the World Health Organization.
Empirically, we observe that a given volume of organic essential oil acts more intensely than the same volume of its non-organic. Not surprising results, when one recalls that similar observations were made with food …
The mere reference to a wild plant is not a guarantee in itself. The certification bodies award the organic label only for wild plants that benefit from agricultural pollution free environment. This type of control also ensures that sites are respected botanicaly and plant regeneration is assured. Attentive to their health and well-being, consumers should never lose sight that their choice may, at best, contribute to sustainable development of endangered species or, in the worst case, accelerating it.
The bio certification also gives you the garantee that your essential oils don’t come from industrial plantations which uses chemical fertilizers during the ‘crop procedure’
ABOUT ECOCERT :
Inspection and Certification
ECOCERT’s basic task consists in guaranteeing the rigourous respect of the applied standards on products, systems or services . The issuance of the certificate acts as a security for the consumer or the user. In Organic Farming for instance, this implies the ability, by means of a qualified staff, a local or regional based network and specific tools, to assist a great number of actors of the organic field, aiming at guaranteeing conformity and traceability to the European , American or Japanese standards, according to the market targeted.
Setting up of standards
ECOCERT sets up standards in partnership with professionals, according to a tested methodology. These standards are based on objective and measurable criteria. ECOCERT insures the conception of a inspection plan, aiming at quality, origin and traceability Ecocert is much in demand on various projects and elaborates standards on its own initiative for ecoproducts, cervidae, crustaceans… Adherence to a standard remains a free and voluntary approach, bearing quality and ethical values requirements.
Training
ECOCERT shares its know-how in its expertise fields such as: regulation, audit management, food safety, traceability, management systems (environmental, quality, security),…
